I didn’t set out to be in the mattress business.

 

Years ago, I was living in Southeast Asia, running another venture, when I was badly let down by a long-standing factory partner in China. After seven years of trust, I was ripped off. Gutted, I packed up my life in the sun and returned to the cold UK, unsure what came next.

By chance, through another business, I came across a source of branded, graded mattresses. I bought a batch, advertised them, and they sold almost instantly. What struck me wasn’t just the demand, but the people: honest, down-to-earth customers who were desperate for a good night’s sleep but often had no idea what they really needed — because no one was giving them proper advice.

 

At the same time, I was shocked by the industry itself. Retailers were selling mattresses for £1,000… £2,000… even £3,000+, without even knowing exactly what was inside. Smoke, mirrors, and jargon disguised massive margins. I thought: how can you recommend a mattress without knowing what it’s actually made of?

 

That curiosity turned into a mission. I wanted to create a better way: handmade mattresses, crafted by skilled, traditional manufacturers, built to my specifications, and sold honestly — without inflated prices.

I found the right factory, with generations of craftsmanship behind them, and we’ve now worked together for over 10 years. Together, we’ve opened up “luxury” mattresses to reveal how ordinary many of them are, and shown customers the truth: quality doesn’t have to cost thousands.
